Each year at the Alumni Dual, Ashland Clocker Wrestling recognizes a former wrestler for their contributions to the program

2026
Richard Flaherty, Jr.

Graduated from AHS in 1987. As a senior, he captured the D2C Sectional Championship at the 140lb weightclass. His passion for Ashland Wrestling continued throughout his life, and loved nothing more than cheering on his son Jack, especially with a "cross face hard". He was well known and beloved throughout the Ashland Wrestling community and loved coaching from the stands. Rich passed away unexpectedly in the Summer of 2025 at the age of 55.

Terry Camara

Terry Camara graduated Ashland High School in 1989. As a senior, he was both a Sectional Finalist and State Finalist. He has made significant contributions to the Massachusetts wrestling community. In 2000, Camara served as the coach of the Massachusetts National Team. In 2014, he returned to his alma mater to rebuild the Ashland Wrestling Program from the ground up. Coach Camara built the youth program in town that has produced five high school state champions and countless team championships to date. In 2022, Camara was recognized as the Massachusetts Coaches’ Association Assistant Coach of the Year.

Peter LaPointe

Peter LaPointe graduated Ashland High School in 1997. He was a 5-year varsity starter and a 3-year captain for the Clockers. As a sophomore, LaPointe captured an individual state championship at 103 lbs. with a finals victory over Joel Cranston of Quabbin. Pete capped off his sophomore season with a 3rd place finish at All-States. As a senior at 125 lbs., LaPointe finished 2nd in the State and 5th at All-States. He recorded more than 100 wins in his career for the Clockers.

Bob Cann

Bob Cann lettered in both football and wrestling at Ashland High School. On the mat he excelled. Under head coach Lou Varichio, Cann captured Sectional and State Championships in 1970. In doing so, he became Ashland’s first and only heavyweight to win a state title. He completed his great postseason run with a runner-up finish at the New England Tournament.

Bob Capistran

Bob Capistran was a talented multi-sport athlete and leader. He served as team captain in football, wrestling, and baseball. On the mat, he was dominant. He finished the 1984 wrestling season with a 34-1 record, a sectional championship, and State Championship wrestling in the 141 pound weight class. He captured the state championship by pinning Cal Vlahos of Triton in the finals with a near-side cradle. Incredibly, he was not taken down all season long.

Paul Capobianco

Paul Capobianco is a name that resonates throughout the program’s history. As a captain of the 1973 squad, Capobianco led the team to an 8-1-1 dual meet record and a 13th place finish in the state. The 1973 Clockers finished second in the dual county league with their lone loss coming at the hands of Wayland. Capobianco capped off the season with a sectional championship at 134 lbs. He continued to have an astounding impact on the program as a coach in the 1980’s. Paul was at the helm from 1981-1986 and coached Marc Mespelli, Bob Capistran, and Dan Paul to individual state titles. He returned in a second stint as head coach from 2002-2003.

Dick Corbin

Coach Dick Corbin started the Ashland Wrestling program in the 1966-67 season. In the first year, the Clockers went undefeated in dual meet competition and were crowned Dual County League Champions. They were led by Lou Mancini, who became the first wrestler in all of metrowest to win a state title. Success continued. The 1968 team is the most decorated team in the program’s history. The ’68 matmen anchored by co-captains Bob Rice and Joe Lefter and state champ Larry Piccioli finished 3rd in the entire state and fourth in New England. From 1966-1968, Ashland won a school record 20 straight dual meets.

Dan Paul

In 1985, Dan Paul completed the wrestling triple crown winning sectional, state, and New England titles becoming the first and only Ashland wrestler to accomplish the feat. Paul’s state title extended the streak to a program record three straight years of individual state champs. Paul finished the season with an unprecedented 45-0 record. He capped it off by becoming the 2nd New England Champion in Ashland Wrestling history making him the most decorated Ashland wrestler of all-time.

Louis "Lou" Mancini

Lou Mancini never lost a dual meet in his wrestling career. He went 11-0 in matches for Ashland High in just one year of wrestling. Mancini capped off his season by becoming Ashland’s first state champ in 1967. Lou wrestled for Boston State College where he continued his dominance by compiling a dual meet record of 42-0. He went on to win the New England Small College Athletic Conference Championship and tournament MVP in 1971. Lou is also a member of the UMASS Boston Athletics Hall of Fame.
